Subjection to rule; submissiveness to order and control; habit of obedience
Discipline: "Habit of Obedience"
This is the part of the definition of discipline of most relevance to day traders, the key word being "habit". At its simplest, in the context of day trading, discipline is the practice of making what you do a habit. As a day trader is often faced with making certain decisions, discipline implies the need to act consistently, in a reliable manner, and in accordance with the pre-determined trading strategy or system set forth in your trading plan.
Have a trading plan or system is essential to the exercise of good discipline, as it normally imposes certain parameters and sets out certain criteria which dictate how trading decisions should me made and what needs to be done in certain situations.
zSB(3,3)
Sponsored Links
Indians Trade Wall StreetOnline trading from your home pc Real time quotes, instant execution www.indiawebtrade.com
Free Stock Chart VideosView over 50 online training videos updated daily with new strategies www.Worden.com
www.Sharekhan.comHabitually following your plan is what is meant by the exercise of good trading discipline, which, in turn, will help you realize the best expected results possible from your plan. If you find that your trading plan or system is not meeting your expectations, despite habitually following it for a reasonable period of time, good discipline requires that you be prepared to review it and make any adjustments or fine tuning necessary for future use.
Lack of Discipline
Day traders who suffer from lack of discipline often allow their emotions to rule their trading decisions, which often leads to bad decisions and unacceptable trading losses. Never allow your emotions to rule your trading. In order to day trade successfully, you must develop a trading plan (subject to any changes to it that you feel may be necessary from time to time) and consistently stick to such plan. You must avoid a "shooting from the hip" or a "seat of the pants approach" to day trading. Get out of the market when you have reached your initial objective and do not let emotions like fear and greed influence your trading decisions.
Many inexperienced traders demonstrate lack of discipline by being afraid or reluctant to take losses and to get out of a stock when it goes down, in the often vain hope that the share price will rise again. Often, however, the share price tumbles even lower, and the trader's initial small loss in the trade becomes a large one. Likewise, some day traders often get greedy if the share price rises and are reluctant to take profits off the table when their trading plan or system suggests they should. They think the share price will rise even more, and they can make even more profits. However, the share price may subsequently drop, causing their gains to dwindle or become losses. Fear or greed are two emotions that should play no role in the life of a disciplined day trader.
What It All Means
In short, discipline requires that you:
Trade on the basis of trading plan or system and not on the basis of your hunches or emotionsTake a profit when you're supposed to in accordance with your pre-determined planTake a loss when you're supposed to in accordance with your pre-determined planDon't trade when there's no need to (over trading; trading for the sake of making a trade)
In addition, In his book, Come Into My Trading Room, Alexander Elder sets out a number of examples of the behavior of a well disciplined trader. To summarize, he has noted that the disciplined trader ordinarily does all of the following:
- develops a unique trading plan or system based on his or her own personal techniques;- constantly grades his or her own adherence to a chosen trading plan; - keeps accurate records of all trades entered into; - attempts to achieve, with only minor losses on a limited number of transactions, a positive overall performance return of at least 20% return per annum; - is self-reliant and rarely shares information or listens to advice from others;- finds the time to learn as much as possible about his or her chosen market; - monitors the chosen markets every day even if he or she is not actively trading; and- learns new ideas to improve trading methods, but does not use them before testing them
If you exercise the qualities of discipline outlined above, the likelihood of you achieving day trading success will be greatly enhanced.

Car Insurance

Why do you need a five step guide to auto insurance shopping? What you can recover will depend upon the kind of damages you experienced because of the accident or injury -- both during and after the incident. In some cases, your family members may also be entitled to recover, to the extent that your injury affected their relationship with you.
To get an idea of the types of damages for which legal recovery is possible, browse the following glossary, which defines almost every type of legal compensation available to a plaintiff in a personal injury case. Remember that an experienced attorney will explain your options, and will work to ensure that you receive all compensation to which you are entitled under the law in your state.
Disfigurement. When an accident or injury has left a person deformed or disfigured, e.g., by scars or other permanent effects on personal appearance, the injured person (the "plaintiff") may be able to collect damages for any mental suffering that arises due to awareness of the disfigurement. These damages are sometimes included as an element of other types of damages, such as mental anguish.
Future medical expenses. This type of recovery is permitted if the plaintiff proves that he or she will need continued medical care as a result of the accident or injury. The proof must be sufficient for the jury to make an approximate estimate of the cost, i.e. through the medical opinion of a treating doctor.
General damages. Compensation for harm that ordinarily results from wrongful conduct, such as physical and mental pain, and loss of enjoyment of life after an accident or injury. These damages cannot be proved with any clear specificity, but are awarded based on the fact that they normally follow from an accident or injury.
Household services . The cost of hiring somebody to do things around the house while the plaintiff is recuperating from an accident or injury, provided that the expense would not have been incurred had the plaintiff not been injured. These kinds of damages are sometimes included as part of medical expenses.

Loan for commercial

When Krishna planned to start a software development firm, the only hurdle was finding an office space. An NRI friend had promised plenty of development work and Krishna was sure of returns on investment in just six months. While renting an office was a popular practice amongst small startups, Krishna felt the ten months advance and monthly rental of Rs 50,000 was too huge. One had to pay more if one needs space in the heart of the city. So wouldn’t taking a loan and owning commercial space be a better alternative ? At the end of the loan tenure, the property becomes yours. Banks offer home loans, personal loans, loan covers, vehicle loans, loans against property and loan for anything you can imagine under the sun. The bank trusts the borrower’s commitment to repay and lends only on the basis of his repayment potential. Lenders believe that since people have emotional bonding to their homes, they’ll seldom default come what may. Then what of people like Krishna who want to buy commercial property? Not many people approach the bank for loans towards commercial property. For those who want to kickstart their operations immediately, plug and play is a feasible solution. Here, office space is ready to be used with the interiors all done. The rent for such a plug and play space may be on the higher side but there are also spaces available for lease without the interiors done. Owners charge anything from 10 to 20 months rental as an advance down payment. The only problem here is that if the lease agreement is for 2-3 years, you may have to dismantle all the interiors and look for alternative space. There are some commercial spaces available for very low rent but have no parking space. Building your own office space or buying one is a good option if you have sound economic backing. Banks loan anything from Rs 3 lakh to a maximum of Rs 1 crore for acquiring a commercial property and the loan tenure may range from 1-15 years. The loan to value ratio is roughly estimated as 60 percent of the total cost of the property. With interiors, this would add up to about 70-75 percent. You may have to put down the remaining money upfront. Some banks lend only for short-term , say a maximum 4-5 years before which repayment must be complete. For individuals purchasing commercial space, banks provide loans if they are assured that the space will be leased by reputed local companies or MNCs. Here, the repayments are secured by rentals and the rate of interest on these loans is around 11.75 percent for fixed and 10.75 percent for floating. Documents required for purchasing a house is different from documents required for acquiring a commercial space. Photo identity, residence proof and bank statements for the last six months are a common requirement. One must also provide certified copies of balance sheets, profit and loss statement of accounts, IT acknowledgement, advance tax challans for both company and personal accounts for the last three years, partnership deeds and brief profile.

Life insurance corp, plans investment of 10,000 cr

Undeterred by the bear phase in the market, India’s largest insurer LIC said it would invest up to Rs 10,000 crore in the stock market this fiscal. “We are likely to invest Rs 9,000-10,000 crore in equities in 2006-07,” LIC executive director A K Dasgupta told media. He said LIC mostly invested in blue-chip companies, which were supposed to be safe bets. Asked whether the company was concerned with the recent volatility in the stock markets, he said: “We feel that there are strong fundamentals associated with the market and it will stabilise at good level in the coming times.” LIC was a net buyer during the market crash that started in May. After launching a unit-linked scheme this month in accordance with the new guidelines, LIC plans to introduce two new products in the next two months. “We are likely to launch a Unit-Linked Insurance Plan in August and a conventional product in September,” LIC North Zone manager Ashok Shah said.

Not jumping into bed at the first time

Kareena Kapoor is not Bollywood’s favourite sex-kitten. She might be spunky, she might be zany, so what happens when ‘Chameli’ touches upon taboo topics? Staider than usual and not blasphemously blase, Bebo almost borders on upon boring. We are on a roll, as scared of her mother’s wrath, Poo bani Parvati.
Today’s woman knows her mind and her heart. So, would it be totally inappropriate according to you if she made a move on her man.I am opposed to women making the first move because I think women have a certain amount of dignity, which they need to maintain. And men will always come around since men are dogs. They should give the chase.
There is a lot of thrust on virginity in our culture. Don’t you think it is totally exaggerated?Look, I feel virginity is not the most important thing, but yes, it is the most sacred thing.
How important do you think is the physical aspect of a relationship, over companionship?See, both these aspects have their own importance but I would rate the physical at 60 per cent because if you don’t find your partner attractive, you are not bound to develop further feelings. Even in situations when friends turn lovers, there is bound to be a certain attraction.
How far is far for you on the first date? The first date is about getting to know a person, not jumping into bed with him. In fact, the first time I go on a date, I am not even thinking of those probabilities. First dates are about finding out whether a second date can culminate out of the same.
Do you think men view women only sexually?I am going to stick to my belief that men are dogs and that they do have a one-track mind. One has to learn to accept that and fall in love with the right guy, and hold onto your beliefs. The institution of marriage is to make love to one another and procreate.
There is a tremendous sexual awakening in our society. Going bold and bohemian is the order of the day. Do you welcome this change?I think this sexual awakening is highly overrated. I think people are just making a big deal and getting hyper about it and talking too much about it, which I think is wrong. I might be wrong in my thought process but I do believe that what happens behind closed doors is not to be spoken of. Sex is a beautiful way in which a man tells a woman he cares and takes the relationship one step further. To me sex is too sacred a term to be used as casually as it is being used.
Would you ever be an active part of a live-in relationship? No, I can’t even think of it. Maybe because I come from a family background where I can’t think about moving in with a man without being married to him. I cannot think of it. Living in with a man entails a lot, it is not a casual decision. I think it is totally thankless grey area where you invest a lot and there are no returns. I mean, when you are living with a man, you make his house, take care of him, but when it is over, God forbid, you are likely to begin with even losing the roof over your head, and where do you go from there? To another relationship and to look for another man to live with? I don’t think women should get into this tangle because they are a far more self-respecting species. Besides, everyone I know who is living together is scoffing at marriage saying it is just a piece of paper. Well, if it is only a piece of paper, then it should not make a difference to get one. If you are going to give yourself to a man, you might as well marry him. If those are the rules, you might as well play by them.
Are men who are committed or married more desirable to women?I guess so, and I think that even committed men get attracted to single women. The ‘Forbidden Fruit’ theory works since they are fettered.
How accepting would you be if you know that your man has had a one night stand? There is nothing to accept. The relationship is over, there is nothing to consider. The man might bellow and cry and fall at my feet, but I cannot forgive in this case.
What about sexual experimentation like a threesome? No way! I would not indulge in that. I just want to have normal healthy fun with my man, that too, at the right time and with the right person. Because I think this is a sacred experience and I think it should be viewed that way.
You are surrounded by such good looking men in your profession. What are the chances of you slipping up?I don’t think I will slip up. I am very conscious in every relationship I tend to be committed 100 per cent. I have my head on my shoulders and I am a person who knows exactly what she wants. I can’t even see myself as a woman torn between two men because for me, one thing has to end for another thing to begin.
As an actress, you have to dress provocatively. Do you think that can be misconstrued for you being labeled as loose?I don’t think anyone gets branded on the basis of what they do on screen. Everyone knows it’s a job, as long as it’s done with dignity and grace. Besides, everyone knows the lineage I come from. No one can brand me as loose. I would not do anything to be derogatory to my family.
Your peer Amisha Patel seems to take it as a compliment that makers did not envision her in the role of the streetwalker in ‘Chameli’.I have come out playing a streetwalker with a lot of dignity. Why do you think I have got all these awards and have been lauded for this role? It is unfortunate and sad to know that someone thinks that playing a streetwalker is derogatory because they are equally human as we are, they are going through certain circumstances that make them take up this profession. I would also like to point out here that even Waheedaji played a prostitute in ‘Pyaasa’, so I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. Anyways, acting is about playing different characters, not just applying make-up and pouting.
If a husband pressurises his wife to satisfy him sexually at a time when she doesn’t want to have sex, do you think it amounts to marital rape?I don’t believe that there is anything such as marital rape. If any woman thinks that her husband is forcing himself on her, she should leave him. There is no point in dragging a relationship where there is such discomfiture.
So when is the right time in a relationship for a woman to have sex?For me at least, these decisions take very long. I should know that this is the man I want to marry. And hope that the relationship reaches that end.
What is the feeling when a woman makes a pass at you?It is a compliment. It feels good to be appreciated, but unfortunately I do not reciprocate

LOVE MATCH

The talented Perizaad Zorabian has finally found love. But when I diet or exercise, I lose weight on my legs quite easily. So I have to concentrate on one body part at a time since different things work for different areas.
I am very disciplined when it comes to staying fit and healthy...I have taken my body for granted for the longest time. It’s only recently that I started getting really serious about working out. The combination of regular exercise sessions and a balanced diet is working wonders for me. I no longer go on fast food binges, I don’t party too much, I stay away from alcohol and generally respect my body.
My favourite form of exercise is jogging on the beach...I love the breeze on my face when I go jogging along the seashore. I find it very rejuvenating and the sound of the waves puts me in a great mood. I also do weights and strength training every other day. I work my upper and lower body alternately. There was a time when I did yoga regularly but now I stopped. These days I am practicing judo as part of my training, which is great exercise.
Eating healthy is half the battle won...I don’t skip meals nor do I cut down on the quantity I want to eat. But I avoid greasy and fried food. My constant endeavour is try and eat more protein than carbohydrates. I eat five to six small meals a day. After I wake up I have a glass of warm water and a big bowl of fruit. For breakfast I have an omelet of egg white with two slices of whole wheat bread.
I carry my own lunch to ensure that I do not eat junk on the sets...When I am shooting, I carry my own lunch which is mostly phulkas, vegetables, chicken and dal. During the day I drink lots of fruit juice. I have a salami sandwich made of whole wheat bread or French toast (made with egg whites and whole wheat bread) as a snack later in the day. Dinner is usually the same as lunch. However once a week I indulge in junk food to break the monotony. My love for pizzas and chocolates is legendary. I’m a big chocoholic and it is very hard to keep my cravings for chocolate under control

James Bond

A new James Bond novel by a mystery writer will be published next year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bond creator Ian Fleming, the late author's family announced on Friday. The family-owned Ian Fleming Publications Ltd announced it had struck a contract with a "very well known and highly respected" author whose identity "will be a closely guarded secret until publication." "We are delighted to have secured this particular author who we have had in mind for some time now," said Corinne Turner, managing director of the company. "He is the perfect writer for this project and we are greatly looking forward to his take on James Bond, in what we are convinced will be a stunning novel." Fleming, a British spy-turned-novelist, wrote 14 Bond books before his death in 1964

Bollywood babes war is over

To revisit an oft-repeated cliche - ‘There are no permanent friends or enemies in the movie business’. And though ‘Vanity’ might be the first name of beauty, the second must always be ‘Intellect’ – to win in the Tinsel sweepstakes. And those two seem to be the maiden names of Kareena Kapoor of late. Blooming, because she’s fast matured into, not only an actor of caliber, but also a woman of substance. And this comes in the surprising evidence that the once egotistical Bebo has to extend a hand of dosti to an old ‘dushman’. If what Kareena told us is anything to go by, her four-year war with Bipasha Basu is already history. To jog the memory – around four years ago, during Ajnabee, Bebo and newcomer Bipasha had ended up on the wrong sides the fence. It was the stereotypal battle of the Bollywood beauties.Being the sexy Bong babe’s first film, already she was being touted as the next sexy sensation; while Bebo was her cool, spunky self. It blew out of proportion post release, with many ‘quotes’ eating up newsprint. In fact, they allegedly didn’t talk to each other all these years. In a sudden twist of events, Kareena broke her silence to exclusively tell us that she had no problems with Bipasha, “I think finally we’re here to put everything else aside and do good work. Why should anyone’s presence deter you from your role? If you like a role so much, you do it irrespective of anything, or anybody’s presence. would like this misconception to be cleared and want people to know that there’s no problem between Bipasha and me. I’ve never interacted with her; I’ve not done a full-fledged film with her, besides Ajnabee.I’d love to work with her again. In fact, while signing me for Omkara, Vishal (Bhardwaj) asked me if I had a problem if Bipasha was in the same project. He’d probably heard the same stories about us. I assured him that I was absolutely comfortable with it,” stated Kareena

Ambani Brothers

A fresh round of sparring between the Ambani brothers - this time over seemingly petty issues like access of one set of employees to the canteen, ATM and temple at Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City - on Tuesday developed into a more serious spat over business commitments given in the June 2005 settlement. Reliance Industries, headed by Mukesh Ambani, on Tuesday issued a statement accusing the Anil Ambani's ADAG of raising trivial issues to trigger "false and baseless allegations" about its commitments and "instigate" its clients and partners with whom it has "excellent business relationship." To dispel doubts on its intent, RIL reiterated that it has "always fulfuilled its obligations and commitments and would continue to do so." ADAG sources, however, maintained that RIL was guilty of "systematically violating every major commitment of the June 2005 settlement" and that it "wants to dishonour" the agreement on gas supply to Reliance Energy (owned by Anil Ambani) at agreed prices. The current round of bickering started when RIL accused Anil's staff of obstructing the entry of Reliance Petroleum staff at the Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge Centre and preventing them from using common facilities like food courts and ATMs. While ADAG initially scotched the allegation, it said RIL had defaulted on payments of Rs 200 crore despite repeated reminders. The Mukesh camp responded by accusing ADAG of using diversionary tactic. It added that "if ADAG has any grievance, it should approach the appropriate forum for resolution." RIL executives said the company had forwarded the proposal for gas supply to the petroleum ministry and requested it to approve the terms and conditions since the government was a partner in the profits and revenues from each oil field. For ADAG, supply of gas from RIL's finds in the Krishna Godavari Basin is crucial to get the Dadri power plant near Delhi going.

Sanju at 47

'I don't know how I'm supposed to feel at this age'
Sanjay Dutt, who turns 47 on Saturday, in conversation

Any anxieties about turning 47 on July 29? Honestly, I'm not scared of ageing. I don't worry about my hair greying or developing frown lines. But I don't feel 47, nor do I know how I'm supposed to feel at this age. All I know is that my life story has been full of twists and turns, highs and lows. I'm told if I were to write my autobiography it would be an international bestseller. I’ve always spoken the truth, no matter how bitter it has been.
Quite a few women find older men sexy. (Laughs) If that's true, then please write that I'm 50. But seriously, Salman (Khan), Abhishek (Bachchan) and John (Abraham) are the hotties. I don't get fan mail from girls saying I'm hot. In fact, women either want to adopt me as their son or want to tie rakhi on me. Reformed addicts write to me too.
Career-wise aren't you way ahead of your contemporaries? I'm constantly being told that but I haven't ever checked who is doing what. My focus has always been on my work, never on what other actors are doing. I've never bothered about the length of my role or the number of films I have on hand. I've been working for over 23 years. I have aged gracefully and that's what matters. I have never worried about top banners and wooing filmmakers.
Aren't you in Karan Johar's production to be directed by Soham?Yes, but don't ask me about my role... because I don't know anything about it myself. I'd been told Karan wanted to cast me but I didn’t believe this till I met him at the London airport. We flew back to Mumbai together. On the flight, he gave me a one-line narration of the story. I said yes immediately. In fact, I got very emotional. For me Karan is family. Our dads were friends. After Gumraah, it will be my next film for Dharma Production.
How confident are you of Lage Raho Munnabhai?Very confident, it’s very funny. I was sure Munnabhai MBBS would work, I'm equally sure about the sequel. Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) is very talented. I have never misled audiences by praising my films on the eve of their release if I haven’t been sure of them.
Does success or failure still matter to you?Personally I'm cool. I have seen too much in life to worry about my fate, Friday to Friday. But it does make a difference to others. If I give a string of flops, it doesn't mean I've become a lousy actor. Yet many filmmakers won't sign me on..they'll feel my luck has run out.
My hits don't make me the flavour of the season either. On second thoughts, I can’t deny the fact that success does make me feel good.
Apparently, Kumar Gaurav and you are planning to revive your father's Ajanta Arts production company. It's an emotional decision. I want dad’s passion for filmmaking to be kept alive. He was very proud of Ajanta Arts. We’re planning to make Behad, a true story of a cop and a dacoit. I know them both. Milan Luthria will direct it.
You had sworn off production when your first attempt Chakra was stalled years ago.True. When I launched Chakra, I didn't know what I was thinking about. I wanted the best pay packet for everyone. So, I was heavily overcharged, we went grossly over budget. I was in debt... we had to shelve the film. For months, I would get up in a cold sweat wondering how I would clear the dues. Slowly, I cleared off every rupee. I realised I'm a bad businessman, I'm all heart. Bunty (Kumar Gaurav) will make all the decisions now, I won't repeat my mistakes.
Any plans to remarry? No, no, no. I’m sure I’ll be depressed if I get married again. I see only divorces around me...most married couples seem to be so unhappy with each other. Also I don't feel the need to settle down anymore. I've been married twice yeah, but now I'm too used to my independence. At this age, I can't be answerable to anyone.
Don't you miss having a child around?I have Trishala. And my nieces and nephew live in the same building. I play with Siddharth (Priya's son) every evening.
Have you met Rhea Pillai recently? We are in touch. She will always be a part of my life, I will always be there for her. I went to see her daughter Aiyana, the baby is adorable.
Are you really happy at the end of the day?No complaints.

Sleep well

WASHINGTON: A University of Florida study has revealed that lack of sleep not only makes people tired and cranky but also causes them to dislike and even hate their jobs the next morning. "It's intuitive that one might feel a little irritable, but to experience emotional spillover to the point of actually feeling less satisfied with work is a little surprising," said Brent Scott, a UF graduate student assistant in management who led the research. The effects were most pronounced in women, who reported suffering more fatigue and hostility and being less attentive and happy than their male counterparts, said Scott, whose study is scheduled to be published in the October issue of the Journal of Management. "These differences may have something to do with society's expectations for men and women," he said. "Women are encouraged to be nurturing and more emotionally expressive than men, who have been taught to remain stoic and restrain their emotions."

Item Bomb

Your dream destination?Anywhere but not hill stations as I start feeling dizzy. One thing you like about Mumbai? We learnt that the actress, who had a toe operation recently and was advised complete bed rest, was out shooting the very next day. Diana had always had an in-grown toe-nail, and when she visited London last she hurt her toe so badly that the doctor recommended an immediate operation. Once she got here, she realized that her second toe-nail, too, was in as bad a shape, if not worse, and had to be operated upon as well. But then it was back to shooting the very next day. Diana tells us, “I couldn’t keep anyone waiting, and plus delaying or postponing a shoot is expensive for any producer. I was to shoot for a commercial and it just wasn’t fair not to turn up and cancel it altogether.” So, the actress was indeed at work, when she should’ve been in bed. “I got six stitches in each of my toe toenails. One just has to grin and bear it sometimes. But I’ll take care now and rest for twice the number of days recommended to me earlier.” Here’s wishing you a quick recovery, Diana!

Kashmir

New Delhi, July 16: A sudden spurt in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, including the grenade attacks on tourists, has hit hard tourism -- the economic lifeline of the state --, as holiday-goers are cancelling plans of visiting the Valley fearing violence. The tourist inflow, which had seen a rise of about 29,500 during the months of May and June last year, slumped by nearly 2,200 during the corresponding period this year because of a spurt in terrorism, sources in the Home Ministry told. The return of tourists to the Kashmir Valley apparently sent a message that the situation was returning to normal and terrorists stepped up the violence, targeting unsuspecting travelers. While the beginning of the summer vacation saw a grenade attack on a tourist bus in Srinagar killing four persons, nine more were killed and 32 injured in a series of similar blasts in Srinagar on July 11, with the needle of suspicion pointing towards the Lashkar-e-Toiba. Though the overall tourist figures visiting the Valley are higher this year, the number fell marginally from 1,06,148 in May to 1,03,970 in June. Things took a turn for worse for the tourism industry when militants hurled a grenade at a tourist bus barely minutes after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left the state capital at the end of his two-day roundtable in May this year. It did not help that the state government asked people coming to the Valley on a vacation to exercise caution, making travelers apprehensive

Big "B"

The name Amitabh Bachchan reeks of power, supremacy and strength. But here’s a surprise - the Big B has a small weakness too. There's something that totally melts that tough exterior of our superstar. You could scratch your heads really hard, but we're sure you can't guess this one. It's something as simple as ice-creams. Yeah, AB has a weakness for this frozen desert, and he can comfortably polish off three-four cones at one go. Apparently, Kajol once told him that cold cures cold, and ever since that day, even when he has a bout of cold-cough and sneezes, you'll see him feasting on his favourite flavors of ice-cream. Now we know of a way to 'melt' AB!

Mumbai

MUMBAI: In the dense green woods around Tansa lake, just 50 miles from Mumbai, one can buy gelatine sticks for just Rs 50 each from tribals. When fixed with a detonator, a stick can blow a hole in a thick wall. Packed with rusty nails and glass pieces and exploded in a crowd, the sticks can reduce a bunch of people to a heap of bodies. Barely 72 hours after terror on the rail tracks left more than 200 people dead in Mumbai, and in the midst of speculation that the blasts were caused by gelatine sticks, I managed to buy one such stick. Using a detonator and fuse, the man demonstrated how to make a bomb and exploded it in a pond, somewhere on the city's periphery. The bomb, made of half a gelatine stick, caused such a huge explosion that the water rose to 15 feet and the driver accompanying me fell to the ground, trembling with fear. The tribals living in the 338 sq km area of Tansa sanctuary call these bombs 'awaaz' and regularly use them for fishing in Tansa lake, which supplies water to Mumbai. Packs of similar sticks were used in the blasts that rocked the city in 2002 and 2003. On hearing that gelatine sticks, a favourite of terrorists and Maoist rebels across the country, are easily available in the stone quarries here, this reporter and a photographer decided to buy the stick from the tribals, one of the easiest ways to procure it. According to police sources, some quarry owners, who have a licence to keep gelatine sticks, as well as some workers sell these explosives to anti-social elements for Rs 50. When bought in bulk, the sticks may cost a mere Rs 25 per piece. On Friday, the TOI team began its hunt for a tribal who could sell them a stick. On making some inquiries among the tribals, the team was directed to a man who agreed to sell an 'awaaz' and a 'kape' (detonator) for Rs 50. The man took the money, asked the team to wait and vanished into the jungle. He returned after 30 minutes, with a small plastic packet in his hand. The package contained a 10-inch gelatine stick wrapped in a white plastic sheet with 'Superpower 90' written on it in shining blue, two detonators and a fuse. With our hearts pounding faster as the devastating explosives came into our hands, we decided to take the packet to Mumbai and hand it over to the police to show how easily it could be bought in the neighbouring district. But the risk of getting caught with explosives en route forced us to return the stick to the tribal. The man, probably eager to show the quality of the stick, offered to make a bomb and explode it in a pond nearby. To ensure that the stick was finally destroyed, we followed the man to the pond, a few kilometres from the sanctuary. On reaching the site, he split the stick into two parts, inserted the fuse into the detonators, pushed them into the 'bombs' and asked us for a cigarette to ignite the fuse. Since neither of us smoked we could not oblige him. The man asked a local youth who was fishing in the pond to make a bonfire, picked a burning twig, lit the bomb and lobbed it into the pond. The moment the bomb kissed the pond's surface, it spewed like a volcano with a huge splash and loud sound. A few minutes later the second bomb landed in the pond, sending up a fury of water and sound and leaving a huge cluster of dead fish. As we headed back to the car, the tribal's face lit up with the 'baksheesh' of Rs 200. He also demanded a small 'cut' of Rs 20 for the boy who lit the bonfire. On our way back to Mumbai, we were left wondering if the police were even aware that close to the city, gelatine sticks were being sold like a sack of potatoes. We bought the stick just to prove a point. Here are simple ways of being romantic in your marriage all through the year... and maybe through a lifetime... Make a conscious decision to be romantic together. Go for candlelight dinners, catch raindrops on your palms, make promises to each other... Call your spouse during the day and say something romantic – it’s an instant energiser. Leave a romantic love note for your mate to find. Going for long romantic walks together. Hold hands while you walk, and try and reminisce the last time you did something as lovely as this. Remember to give a lingering kiss for no reason at all. Say ‘I love you’ ... many times... over and over again. Watch a classic romantic movie together. Lie down on a blanket in your backyard and watch the clouds or stars. Send a romantic card. Hug. Kiss. Touch... Go play. Plan a romantic, candlelight dinner. Pick a flower to put in in your man’s buttonhole. Write a romantic love letter. Nibble on your spouse’s ear and whisper something sweet or spicy. Schedule an evening to have a romantic date with one another .

Miss Universe-India

Miss India-Universe 2006 Neha Kapur ready to show her curves and bring back the Miss Universe crown .Miss India-Universe 2006 Neha Kapur is excited about the upcoming Miss Universe beauty pageant. One of the most popular and enduring forms of art, comic books have the power to zoom their central characters right off their pages on to the silver screen. Last year there were the due instalments from Batman and Spiderman. Superman merely clinches the climax to a global audience's yearning to escape into a fantasy world manned by people of superhuman strength. But what is the secret behind a comic book hero's enduring appeal? On one level, comic book heroes are just good men featuring in action stories. But look deeper and Batman becomes a metaphor for adults working out childhood traumas, Superman is an immigrant symbol, Spiderman represents a typical adolescent turning into a responsible man and the X-Men series reflects the civil rights movements of the 60's. The superheroes' appeal follows the creators' use of folklore and cultural motifs. The creators may create new historical contexts, heroes and villains but they also depend heavily on folklore structures to develop their narratives. Some of the common traits of the superheroes are that they are introspective, concerned and even obsessed with exploring their identity and have to redeem their own past. Another overarching theme is the battle with evil and this has been a huge topic throughout. Batman, who was born around 1939, has been the most prominent of all superheroes holding a timeless appeal for teenage boys. Sherlock Holmes to a large extent solved crimes before they happened, but comic books focus on crimes that have already happened and the concept of apt revenge. The action is not thought out or premeditated. Just like all things American, the action is a pure response to a 'barbarous' act. Symbolism from folklore has been so intelligently packaged that it does not interfere with the fantasy element for even the most avid fan. Comic books create a comfortable space for the reader to explore vexing or tormenting issues. Heroes become alter egos playing out the audience's deeper most desires, single-handedly fighting evil forces and nature's fury. Superhero archetypes are there to connect reality to myth, the real world to the mythical world, and in the process to clarify issues of general and human concern.

Kareena Kapoor

Many may think that actress Kareena Kapoor has rubbed people the wrong way with her frank and forthright opinions; but the glam gal believes that it is actually that very honest and outspoken attitude that’s responsible for her success. Bebo is quick to the draw to voice her feelings, about films, her contemporaries or even her beau Shahid Kapoor. “I really don’t know how to be diplomatic. If I get along with someone, I get along, and if I don’t, I don’t. It’s simple. Why must I lie about anything? If someone asks me for my opinion on something or somebody, I give it. Hmnnn!

Farhan Akhtar and I

On a warm afternoon, I meet Koel Purie at her designer apartment on Carter Road. She’s just back from a dentist’s clinic. She sits on a bean bag with a plate of spartan lunch while I ask her to tell me about her todays and yesterdays.
On the rumours linking her with director Farhan Akhtar This is the most interesting rumour I’ve heard about myself in recent months. I don’t even remember when I last met Farhan Akhtar. Honestly, I wish I could even call him a friend. He is an acquaintance. But hey, I’m loving this. This is funny.
On yesterday’s boyfriend Rahul BoseHe was and he is a great pal. I was only in the second year of my acting course at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. I was not allowed to accept any assignments before completing the course.
But Rahul was such a dear friend that I couldn’t turn down the role he had written in Everybody Says I’m Fine, especially for me. I came to Mumbai in my winter vacations to do the film. We worked again on White Noise, he’s outstanding company.
On dad Aroon Purie I never intended to join him. I was a journalist before I joined films, I worked for over two years on a popular news channel. At times I wouldn’t hesitate to help him out. He would have been supportive of my career choices even if I had wanted to become a cobbler. My family can’t live my life for me. They can only assure me that they will be there whenever I need them.
On Bollywood rites Believe me, I’m not only an artwalli, I’m not confined by genres. I shifted to Mumbai two years ago and I feel a part of the city, its throb and tension. I’m a Bollywood actress and proud of it. I can dance around the trees, I have no problems in doing steamy scenes, the works.
I’ve done Canadian films, British films like Losing Gemma recently. I can do TV and theatre too.
On staying aloneThat’s really no big deal. And there’s no chance of me getting lonely either. I’m a compulsive reader. I can pick up any book and forget the rest of the world for hours. And though I may not seem to be the type who has a dream hero, I do. And that’s Superman.
On her quirksI’m not superstitious at all. But I do wonder about coincidences. I was in London when the bombings happened in July last year. I was in Thailand when tsunami struck. And I was in Mumbai during the 26/7 floods.

No girle men please

Money, sex, love...women's wish list seems to be never ending. But above all this, girls look for men who are more masculine looking. No girlie men please!
Of late, with loads of emphasis on looks, more men are turning metrosexual. Taking care of their nails to trying various ways to enhance their look seems to be gaining importance but unfortunately this does not impress women, guys!
Atleast, that's what some buxom beauties seem to believe. Let's know what they have to say.
NEHA DHUPIAA man is known for his strong body and sturdy look. I have never liked metroseuxal men. If a man is more concerned about his eye-lashes and eye-brows, what's the difference between men and women? I don't think he is better than a woman. A man should be strong-willed with robust body and muscles. I always go for a man who is tough rather than someone regularly attending beauty parlours for getting a face lift. A man is identified with his manly appearance.
PRIYANKA CHOPRAMetrosexuality among men has never been according to the social norms. I never feel going for such a man, rather people are a turn off. A man should not fall for beauty tips just on the cost of his manliness. I respect and recognize someone who is intelligent rather than one who has taken all minute care of his looks and style.
KOENA MITRAThe item girl too feels that the culture of metrosexuality doesn't go well with our tradition. "We have a tradition that men give lot of emphasis on tough work out and strong convictions. Following beauty tips for looking good doesn't gel well with our culture. If I have to choose between someone who is cultured and the one who is more of a metrosexual kind, I will go for the former," states Koena.

Vijay Mallya

MUMBAI: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya is believed to have acquired Bouvet-Ladubay, the wine subsidiary of French champagne major Taittinger for $ 15 million.
The deal, expected to be signed soon, will enable UB's spirits subsidiary, United Spirits Ltd, to get into premium wines, sources said.
When contacted, a UB spokesperson said: “We have made a bid for Bouvet-Ladubay. But at this point of time, we are making no further comments.”
Earlier, UB had made a bid to acquire Champege Taittinger for Rs 3000 crore but US private equity firm Starwood Capital, which bought the European champagne major last year from its French promoters, sold it to Credit Agricole backed by the Taittinger family.
However, it decided to sell the wine subsidiary separately. Founded in 1851, Bouvet-Ladubay, which is described as one of the most respected wine-producing firms in Europe, is located in the French Loire Valley region.
In a bid to foray into the growing wine market in the sub-continent, UB Group plans to import Bouvet-Ladubay's range of wines with the acquisition.
“We will use its technology to develop our own wine yards and wineries in India, for a sustainable growth and leverage our leadership in the spirits market,” UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya has said.
Last year, UB Group had acquired Shaw Wallace for $ 354 million, which made the Indian liquor major the world's second largest spirits group.

Esha Deol

‘My mom and sister are too much to handle’
After Hours Correspondent Sunday, July 02, 2006 18:23 IST
Esha Deol speaks out on her worst critics, number one aspiration and her PR skills.
Are you looking forward to being directed by younger sister Ahana? Yes! By the way, she’s already started directing me at home (laughs)..
What does Ahana think of your work? She is my worst critic as is my mom. They are constantly criticising my clothes, hair, looks. Both of them put together are too much to handle.
How comfortable are you with doing intimate scenes? It depends on how the director shoots it. There are people who shoot with wrong angles, but I am very particular about these things. If I have to do intimate scenes, I rehearse it. At the end of the day, I have to get married and be accepted at home. You also have to keep in mind what your kids might think of you in the future.
How important are PR skills to survive in the industry?I can’t do fake ‘PRgiri’. I can’t call you to my van and say, ‘Hi buddy, how are you doing? Would you like to have lunch with me? Would you like to come for a trial of my film?’ I know PR people are hired today. But I really don’t understand how if you fall or miss a flight, it makes news. I talk to the press just before a movie release, as otherwise my life is very boring.
Are you aiming to be the next number one?I have lots of goals. There are a lot of things that are close to my heart. I don’t believe in discussing them, but I am a very ambitious person.
Can you get ahead in life just by working hard? You could be working hard, but you could be doing really s*** hard-work and not get anywhere. At the same time, you can do quality hard-work and get somewhere. It’s your choice.
Okay, so how do you define s*** hard-work and quality hard-work? (Giggles) For me, quality hard-work is something that is well-structured, pre-planned and well-utilised, something which earns you good recognition.
So ‘Dhoom’ was quality hard work and ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’ is… No, no, all my movies are quality hard-work. (Breaks into laughter).

Its Romantic in Rain

Which is more romantic: A graveyard or parking lot? Surprised? Well, don't be. Couples are now moving beyond the bedroom to catch quick love bites. For them, wacky spots are the way to go!
Sharing some quiet moments together at Nehru Park or Lodhi Garden is now passé. Today, couples want to be innovative and try different dating places that can stir the senses.
When asked about her ideal dating spot, Shikha, a college-goer, said, "My perfect place would be the ruins one finds in South Delhi. Graveyards are also a nice place."
As if this was not a good enough choice, the lady even suggested storehouses and go-downs as exciting dating places. Looks like it is going to be not just a jittery experience for first date but even a spooky one!
There is also a class of nature lovers. These are the ones who prefer places like forests and mountains for some dozes of love with their partner. And then there are timeless places like beaches that are a favourite among couples. The sound of waves, cool sand and a beautiful sunset seem to be a perfect setting for the flower of love to blossom as couples enjoy each other's company and also the company of nature.
Some daring ones are not afraid to even try places that would be considered dangerous by others. Nisha, another college girl, feels, "Window ledges are a good place for a sexy moment together." Any other places? "Yes, parking lots, busy roadsides and ancient tombs are also my-kinda places," she quips.
Well, one can surely say that after Mallika and Emraan shared some intimate moments on the ledge of a high-rise building, they got some fans in India who wish to follow their daring footsteps.
Rajeev, a young professional says, "Being alone in an elevator can actually turn out to be a cozy place for a quick love bite. One can beat boring time in an elevator by being innovative. But beware! Getting cozy in an elevator can be a little risky also!"
"In India, let alone sharing a peck, even having a casual conversation with a man in your parked car is scary as the stares you get are truly disgusting. Otherwise, even a car can turn into a hot spot for love making who are hard-pressed for time. My ideal place would be the back-seat of my car!" quips Rajeev.
So the advice here is to avoid a car-date lest it the date turns into a nightmare of inquisitive glares!
A rooftop could is also a favourite hang out for younglings who wish to touch the lofty heights of love. A windy weather on the terrace is like icing on the cake!
However, there are those who like playing it safe. Says 19-year-old Amrita, "I think bedroom is still the most romantic and safest of all places."
Well, couples are not hesitant to explore new territories when it comes to getting carnal pleasure. Be it bedroom or a beach, they are in a mood for adventure. Are you?

Keep Fit says BIPASHA

Bipasha Basu thinks one doesn’t have to hit the gym to cut the flab and stay fit
I was the chubbiest model on the ramp...I used to take my body for granted in my modelling days — I ate what I wanted and never worked out. I was at my heaviest in my first film Jism too but fortunately people thought I looked hot. But now after becoming an actor, I have realised the importance of staying fit. Being in shape not only keeps you looking good but also helps you in coping with mental stress.
I was scared of showing my mid-riff and that’s what initiated me into getting into shape….I was playing a club dancer in No Entry and was required to wear clothes that showed off my belly. I feared that my bulges will show on screen and that really motivated me to start working out and eating sensibly.
Love handles are the biggest problem for women…I have been working on getting rid of my love handles and am actually seeing some positive results. I do side twists and crunches and thankfully my love handles haven’t come back.
I still have a long way to go but I am working towards getting a Perfect 10 body…I usually work out thrice a week but remain active on all days through dancing and outdoor sports like tennis. My exercise routine starts with half an hour on the treadmill and 15 minutes either on the cross trainer or a stationery cycle. I also lift weights, concentrating on two body parts at a time.
Whatever is my intake, it has to be low-fat….I don’t really make a conscious effort to stay away from any kind of food in particular, but whatever I eat has to be nutritious and low-fat. I start my day with toast, cornflakes and juice. Lunch is either fish, chicken or vegetables with rotis. I have cut down drastically on my rice intake. Dinner is usually a salad.
Though I work hard towards maintaining my body, I don’t ignore my mind….It is very important to beat mental and physical stress. While yoga and meditation do wonders for my mental well-being, I also believe that the company of friends and family contributes greatly to my life and happiness.
You don’t need to be a film star to get into shape…Staying fit takes less effort than we think. You don’t necessarily have to hit the gym to cut out the flab. No matter what profession we are in, it is important to lead a healthy lifestyle. Stay active whether at home or in the office. Even simple lifestyle changes like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or a brisk walk during the lunch hour will contribute towards a fitter mind and body.

Sania Mirza

LONDON: Sania Mirza will head to the hard courts of the United States, determined to prove she’s a better player than her early French Open and Wimbledon exits suggest.
Sania was knocked out of the first round at Wimbledon by Elena Dementieva, the Russian seventh seed, 7-6(5) 7-5, just weeks after the draw at Roland Garros handed her an unenviable opener against former champion Anastasia Myskina. That too ended in a demoralising defeat.
But the Hyderabad lass, who has lived with all manner of threats because of her sultry and sexy on-court appearance, believes the US hard-court season will see a much-needed change in fortune. “Luck has not really been on my side. I played Myskina who loves clay in Paris and Dementieva here,” she says. “I’m not very much disappointed as I played a decent match. I’ve always learnt to take positives out of my game.”
The 19-year-old ended 2005 ranked 31 in the world, a season which also saw her win the Hyderabad Open, her first, and only, WTA title. But 2006 has been a struggle with injuries and Sania took to the court on Wednesday with her right elbow heavily strapped.
“The second year on the circuit is always tougher than the first because other players get to analyse your game,” she says.
“Everyone knows if they play to my forehand they’ll be in trouble and the word spreads. Dementieva played to my backhand. Because of my elbow injury I’ve not been able to work on it as much as I would have liked.
“Injuries are an inevitable part of every sport. There’s never going to be a time when I wake up in the morning and something’s not hurting. We’re putting so much pressure on our bodies that something’s going to break down once in a while,” she adds.

My Introduction

Hi!
I am Aarti,an this is my first posting on my blog.
