Discipline: "Habit of Obedience"
This is the part of the definition of discipline of most relevance to day traders, the key word being "habit". At its simplest, in the context of day trading, discipline is the practice of making what you do a habit. As a day trader is often faced with making certain decisions, discipline implies the need to act consistently, in a reliable manner, and in accordance with the pre-determined trading strategy or system set forth in your trading plan.
Have a trading plan or system is essential to the exercise of good discipline, as it normally imposes certain parameters and sets out certain criteria which dictate how trading decisions should me made and what needs to be done in certain situations.

Lack of Discipline
Day traders who suffer from lack of discipline often allow their emotions to rule their trading decisions, which often leads to bad decisions and unacceptable trading losses. Never allow your emotions to rule your trading. In order to day trade successfully, you must develop a trading plan (subject to any changes to it that you feel may be necessary from time to time) and consistently stick to such plan. You must avoid a "shooting from the hip" or a "seat of the pants approach" to day trading. Get out of the market when you have reached your initial objective and do not let emotions like fear and greed influence your trading decisions.
Many inexperienced traders demonstrate lack of discipline by being afraid or reluctant to take losses and to get out of a stock when it goes down, in the often vain hope that the share price will rise again. Often, however, the share price tumbles even lower, and the trader's initial small loss in the trade becomes a large one. Likewise, some day traders often get greedy if the share price rises and are reluctant to take profits off the table when their trading plan or system suggests they should. They think the share price will rise even more, and they can make even more profits. However, the share price may subsequently drop, causing their gains to dwindle or become losses. Fear or greed are two emotions that should play no role in the life of a disciplined day trader.
What It All Means
In short, discipline requires that you:
Trade on the basis of trading plan or system and not on the basis of your hunches or emotionsTake a profit when you're supposed to in accordance with your pre-determined planTake a loss when you're supposed to in accordance with your pre-determined planDon't trade when there's no need to (over trading; trading for the sake of making a trade)
In addition, In his book, Come Into My Trading Room, Alexander Elder sets out a number of examples of the behavior of a well disciplined trader. To summarize, he has noted that the disciplined trader ordinarily does all of the following:
- develops a unique trading plan or system based on his or her own personal techniques;- constantly grades his or her own adherence to a chosen trading plan; - keeps accurate records of all trades entered into; - attempts to achieve, with only minor losses on a limited number of transactions, a positive overall performance return of at least 20% return per annum; - is self-reliant and rarely shares information or listens to advice from others;- finds the time to learn as much as possible about his or her chosen market; - monitors the chosen markets every day even if he or she is not actively trading; and- learns new ideas to improve trading methods, but does not use them before testing them
If you exercise the qualities of discipline outlined above, the likelihood of you achieving day trading success will be greatly enhanced.

Banks offer home loans, personal loans, loan covers, vehicle loans, loans against property and loan for anything you can imagine under the sun. Here, the repayments are secured by rentals and the rate of interest on these loans is around 11.75 percent for fixed and 10.75 percent for floating. Documents required for purchasing a house is different from documents required for acquiring a commercial space. Photo identity, residence proof and bank statements for the last six months are a common requirement. One must also provide certified copies of balance sheets, profit and loss statement of accounts, IT acknowledgement, advance tax challans for both company and personal accounts for the last three years, partnership deeds and brief profile.

Undeterred by the bear phase in the market, India’s largest insurer LIC said it would invest up to Rs 10,000 crore in the stock market this fiscal. “We are likely to invest Rs 9,000-10,000 crore in equities in 2006-07,” LIC executive director A K Dasgupta told media. He said LIC mostly invested in blue-chip companies, which were supposed to be safe bets. Asked whether the company was concerned with the recent volatility in the stock markets, he said: “We feel that there are strong fundamentals associated with the market and it will stabilise at good level in the coming times.” LIC was a net buyer during the market crash that started in May. After launching a unit-linked scheme this month in accordance with the new guidelines, LIC plans to introduce two new products in the next two months. “We are likely to launch a Unit-Linked Insurance Plan in August and a conventional product in September,” LIC North Zone manager Ashok Shah said.

It is unfortunate and sad to know that someone thinks that playing a streetwalker is derogatory because they are equally human as we are, they are going through certain circumstances that make them take up this profession. I would also like to point out here that even Waheedaji played a prostitute in ‘Pyaasa’, so I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. Anyways, acting is about playing different characters, not just applying make-up and pouting.

Whatever I eat goes straight to my hips...I tend to put on weight on my hips quite rapidly and I also feel that I have heavy arms. But when I diet or exercise, I lose weight on my legs quite easily. So I have to concentrate on one body part at a time since different things work for different areas.
I am very disciplined when it comes to staying fit and healthy...I have taken my body for granted for the longest time. It’s only recently that I started getting really serious about working out. The combination of regular exercise sessions and a balanced diet is working wonders for me. I no longer go on fast food binges, I don’t party too much, I stay away from alcohol and generally respect my body.
My favourite form of exercise is jogging on the beach...I love the breeze on my face when I go jogging along the seashore. I find it very rejuvenating and the sound of the waves puts me in a great mood. I also do weights and strength training every other day. I work my upper and lower body alternately. There was a time when I did yoga regularly but now I stopped. These days I am practicing judo as part of my training, which is great exercise.
Eating healthy is half the battle won...I don’t skip meals nor do I cut down on the quantity I want to eat. But I avoid greasy and fried food. My constant endeavour is try and eat more protein than carbohydrates. I eat five to six small meals a day. After I wake up I have a glass of warm water and a big bowl of fruit. For breakfast I have an omelet of egg white with two slices of whole wheat bread.
I carry my own lunch to ensure that I do not eat junk on the sets...When I am shooting, I carry my own lunch which is mostly phulkas, vegetables, chicken and dal. During the day I drink lots of fruit juice. I have a salami sandwich made of whole wheat bread or French toast (made with egg whites and whole wheat bread) as a snack later in the day. Dinner is usually the same as lunch. However once a week I indulge in junk food to break the monotony. My love for pizzas and chocolates is legendary. I’m a big chocoholic and it is very hard to keep my cravings for chocolate under control

A fresh round of sparring between the Ambani brothers - this time over seemingly petty issues like access of one set of employees to the canteen, ATM and temple at Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City - on Tuesday developed into a more serious spat over business commitments given in the June 2005 settlement. Reliance Industries, headed by Mukesh Ambani, on Tuesday issued a statement accusing the Anil Ambani's ADAG of raising trivial issues to trigger "false and baseless allegations" about its commitments and "instigate" its clients and partners with whom it has "excellent business relationship." To dispel doubts on its intent, RIL reiterated that it has "always fulfuilled its obligations and commitments and would continue to do so." ADAG sources, however, maintained that RIL was guilty of "systematically violating every major commitment of the June 2005 settlement" and that it "wants to dishonour" the agreement on gas supply to Reliance Energy (owned by Anil Ambani) at agreed prices. The current round of bickering started when RIL accused Anil's staff of obstructing the entry of Reliance Petroleum staff at the Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge Centre and preventing them from using common facilities like food courts and ATMs. While ADAG initially scotched the allegation, it said RIL had defaulted on payments of Rs 200 crore despite repeated reminders. The Mukesh camp responded by accusing ADAG of using diversionary tactic. It added that "if ADAG has any grievance, it should approach the appropriate forum for resolution." RIL executives said the company had forwarded the proposal for gas supply to the petroleum ministry and requested it to approve the terms and conditions since the government was a partner in the profits and revenues from each oil field. For ADAG, supply of gas from RIL's finds in the Krishna Godavari Basin is crucial to get the Dadri power plant near Delhi going.

Any anxieties about turning 47 on July 29? Honestly, I'm not scared of ageing. I don't worry about my hair greying or developing frown lines. But I don't feel 47, nor do I know how I'm supposed to feel at this age. All I know is that my life story has been full of twists and turns, highs and lows. I'm told if I were to write my autobiography it would be an international bestseller. I’ve always spoken the truth, no matter how bitter it has been.
Quite a few women find older men sexy. (Laughs) If that's true, then please write that I'm 50. But seriously, Salman (Khan), Abhishek (Bachchan) and John (Abraham) are the hotties. I don't get fan mail from girls saying I'm hot. In fact, women either want to adopt me as their son or want to tie rakhi on me. Reformed addicts write to me too.
Career-wise aren't you way ahead of your contemporaries? I'm constantly being told that but I haven't ever checked who is doing what. I said yes immediately. In fact, I got very emotional. For me Karan is family. Our dads were friends. After Gumraah, it will be my next film for Dharma Production.
How confident are you of Lage Raho Munnabhai?Very confident, it’s very funny. I was sure Munnabhai MBBS would work, I'm equally sure about the sequel. Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) is very talented. I have never misled audiences by praising my films on the eve of their release if I haven’t been sure of them.
Does success or failure still matter to you?Personally I'm cool. I have seen too much in life to worry about my fate, Friday to Friday. But it does make a difference to others. If I give a string of flops, it doesn't mean I've become a lousy actor. Yet many filmmakers won't sign me on..they'll feel my luck has run out.
My hits don't make me the flavour of the season either. On second thoughts, I can’t deny the fact that success does make me feel good.

"It's intuitive that one might feel a little irritable, but to experience emotional spillover to the point of actually feeling less satisfied with work is a little surprising," said Brent Scott, a UF graduate student assistant in management who led the research. The effects were most pronounced in women, who reported suffering more fatigue and hostility and being less attentive and happy than their male counterparts, said Scott, whose study is scheduled to be published in the October issue of the Journal of Management. "These differences may have something to do with society's expectations for men and women," he said. "Women are encouraged to be nurturing and more emotionally expressive than men, who have been taught to remain stoic and restrain their emotions."

We learnt that the actress, who had a toe operation recently and was advised complete bed rest, was out shooting the very next day. Diana had always had an in-grown toe-nail, and when she visited London last she hurt her toe so badly that the doctor recommended an immediate operation. Once she got here, she realized that her second toe-nail, too, was in as bad a shape, if not worse, and had to be operated upon as well. But then it was back to shooting the very next day. Diana tells us, “I couldn’t keep anyone waiting, and plus delaying or postponing a shoot is expensive for any producer. I was to shoot for a commercial and it just wasn’t fair not to turn up and cancel it altogether.” So, the actress was indeed at work, when she should’ve been in bed. “I got six stitches in each of my toe toenails. New Delhi, July 16: A sudden spurt in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, including the grenade attacks on tourists, has hit hard tourism -- the economic lifeline of the state --, as holiday-goers are cancelling plans of visiting the Valley fearing violence. The tourist inflow, which had seen a rise of about 29,500 during the months of May and June last year, slumped by nearly 2,200 during the corresponding period this year because of a spurt in terrorism, sources in the Home Ministry told. The return of tourists to the Kashmir Valley apparently sent a message that the situation was returning to normal and terrorists stepped up the violence, targeting unsuspecting travelers. While the beginning of the summer vacation saw a grenade attack on a tourist bus in Srinagar killing four persons, nine more were killed and 32 injured in a series of similar blasts in Srinagar on July 11, with the needle of suspicion pointing towards the Lashkar-e-Toiba. Though the overall tourist figures visiting the Valley are higher this year, the number fell marginally from 1,06,148 in May to 1,03,970 in June. Things took a turn for worse for the tourism industry when militants hurled a grenade at a tourist bus barely minutes after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left the state capital at the end of his two-day roundtable in May this year. It did not help that the state government asked people coming to the Valley on a vacation to exercise caution, making travelers apprehensive

MUMBAI: In the dense green woods around Tansa lake, just 50 miles from Mumbai, one can buy gelatine sticks for just Rs 50 each from tribals. When fixed with a detonator, a stick can blow a hole in a thick wall. Packed with rusty nails and glass pieces and exploded in a crowd, the sticks can reduce a bunch of people to a heap of bodies. Barely 72 hours after terror on the rail tracks left more than 200 people dead in Mumbai, and in the midst of speculation that the blasts were caused by gelatine sticks, I managed to buy one such stick. Using a detonator and fuse, the man demonstrated how to make a bomb and exploded it in a pond, somewhere on the city's periphery. The bomb, made of half a gelatine stick, caused such a huge explosion that the water rose to 15 feet and the driver accompanying me fell to the ground, trembling with fear. The tribals living in the 338 sq km area of Tansa sanctuary call these bombs 'awaaz' and regularly use them for fishing in Tansa lake, which supplies water to Mumbai. Packs of similar sticks were used in the blasts that rocked the city in 2002 and 2003. On hearing that gelatine sticks, a favourite of terrorists and Maoist rebels across the country, are easily available in the stone quarries here, this reporter and a photographer decided to buy the stick from the tribals, one of the easiest ways to procure it. According to police sources, some quarry owners, who have a licence to keep gelatine sticks, as well as some workers sell these explosives to anti-social elements for Rs 50. When bought in bulk, the sticks may cost a mere Rs 25 per piece. On Friday, the TOI team began its hunt for a tribal who could sell them a stick. On making some inquiries among the tribals, the team was directed to a man who agreed to sell an 'awaaz' and a 'kape' (detonator) for Rs 50. The man took the money, asked the team to wait and vanished into the jungle. He returned after 30 minutes, with a small plastic packet in his hand. The package contained a 10-inch gelatine stick wrapped in a white plastic sheet with 'Superpower 90' written on it in shining blue, two detonators and a fuse. With our hearts pounding faster as the devastating explosives came into our hands, we decided to take the packet to Mumbai and hand it over to the police to show how easily it could be bought in the neighbouring district. But the risk of getting caught with explosives en route forced us to return the stick to the tribal. The man, probably eager to show the quality of the stick, offered to make a bomb and explode it in a pond nearby. To ensure that the stick was finally destroyed, we followed the man to the pond, a few kilometres from the sanctuary. On reaching the site, he split the stick into two parts, inserted the fuse into the detonators, pushed them into the 'bombs' and asked us for a cigarette to ignite the fuse. Since neither of us smoked we could not oblige him. The man asked a local youth who was fishing in the pond to make a bonfire, picked a burning twig, lit the bomb and lobbed it into the pond. The moment the bomb kissed the pond's surface, it spewed like a volcano with a huge splash and loud sound. A few minutes later the second bomb landed in the pond, sending up a fury of water and sound and leaving a huge cluster of dead fish. As we headed back to the car, the tribal's face lit up with the 'baksheesh' of Rs 200. He also demanded a small 'cut' of Rs 20 for the boy who lit the bonfire. On our way back to Mumbai, we were left wondering if the police were even aware that close to the city, gelatine sticks were being sold like a sack of potatoes. We bought the stick just to prove a point. Our intention was not to break the law, but to prove that dangerous explosives are easily available merely an hour away from Mumbai.

Superman merely clinches the climax to a global audience's yearning to escape into a fantasy world manned by people of superhuman strength. But what is the secret behind a comic book hero's enduring appeal? On one level, comic book heroes are just good men featuring in action stories. But look deeper and Batman becomes a metaphor for adults working out childhood traumas, Superman is an immigrant symbol, Spiderman represents a typical adolescent turning into a responsible man and the X-Men series reflects the civil rights movements of the 60's. The superheroes' appeal follows the creators' use of folklore and cultural motifs. The creators may create new historical contexts, heroes and villains but they also depend heavily on folklore structures to develop their narratives. Some of the common traits of the superheroes are that they are introspective, concerned and even obsessed with exploring their identity and have to redeem their own past. Another overarching theme is the battle with evil and this has been a huge topic throughout. Batman, who was born around 1939, has been the most prominent of all superheroes holding a timeless appeal for teenage boys. Sherlock Holmes to a large extent solved crimes before they happened, but comic books focus on crimes that have already happened and the concept of apt revenge. The action is not thought out or premeditated. Just like all things American, the action is a pure response to a 'barbarous' act. Symbolism from folklore has been so intelligently packaged that it does not interfere with the fantasy element for even the most avid fan. Comic books create a comfortable space for the reader to explore vexing or tormenting issues. Heroes become alter egos playing out the audience's deeper most desires, single-handedly fighting evil forces and nature's fury. Superhero archetypes are there to connect reality to myth, the real world to the mythical world, and in the process to clarify issues of general and human concern.

MUMBAI: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya is believed to have acquired Bouvet-Ladubay, the wine subsidiary of French champagne major Taittinger for $ 15 million.
The deal, expected to be signed soon, will enable UB's spirits subsidiary, United Spirits Ltd, to get into premium wines, sources said.
When contacted, a UB spokesperson said: “We have made a bid for Bouvet-Ladubay. But at this point of time, we are making no further comments.”
Earlier, UB had made a bid to acquire Champege Taittinger for Rs 3000 crore but US private equity firm Starwood Capital, which bought the European champagne major last year from its French promoters, sold it to Credit Agricole backed by the Taittinger family.
However, it decided to sell the wine subsidiary separately. Founded in 1851, Bouvet-Ladubay, which is described as one of the most respected wine-producing firms in Europe, is located in the French Loire Valley region.
In a bid to foray into the growing wine market in the sub-continent, UB Group plans to import Bouvet-Ladubay's range of wines with the acquisition.
“We will use its technology to develop our own wine yards and wineries in India, for a sustainable growth and leverage our leadership in the spirits market,” UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya has said.
Last year, UB Group had acquired Shaw Wallace for $ 354 million, which made the Indian liquor major the world's second largest spirits group.

Are you looking forward to being directed by younger sister Ahana? Yes! By the way, she’s already started directing me at home (laughs)..
What does Ahana think of your work? She is my worst critic as is my mom. They are constantly criticising my clothes, hair, looks. Both of them put together are too much to handle.
How comfortable are you with doing intimate scenes?It depends on how the director shoots it. There are people who shoot with wrong angles, but I am very particular about these things. If I have to do intimate scenes, I rehearse it. At the end of the day, I have to get married and be accepted at home. You also have to keep in mind what your kids might think of you in the future.
How important are PR skills to survive in the industry?I can’t do fake ‘PRgiri’. I can’t call you to my van and say, ‘Hi buddy, how are you doing? Would you like to have lunch with me? Would you like to come for a trial of my film?’ I know PR people are hired today. But I really don’t understand how if you fall or miss a flight, it makes news. I talk to the press just before a movie release, as otherwise my life is very boring.
Are you aiming to be the next number one?I have lots of goals. There are a lot of things that are close to my heart. I don’t believe in discussing them, but I am a very ambitious person.
Can you get ahead in life just by working hard?You could be working hard, but you could be doing really s*** hard-work and not get anywhere. At the same time, you can do quality hard-work and get somewhere. It’s your choice.
Okay, so how do you define s*** hard-work and quality hard-work? (Giggles) For me, quality hard-work is something that is well-structured, pre-planned and well-utilised, something which earns you good recognition.
So ‘Dhoom’ was quality hard work and ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’ is… No, no, all my movies are quality hard-work. (Breaks into laughter).

Rajeev, a young professional says, "Being alone in an elevator can actually turn out to be a cozy place for a quick love bite. One can beat boring time in an elevator by being innovative. But beware! Getting cozy in an elevator can be a little risky also!"
"In India, let alone sharing a peck, even having a casual conversation with a man in your parked car is scary as the stares you get are truly disgusting. Bipasha Basu thinks one doesn’t have to hit the gym to cut the flab and stay fit
I was the chubbiest model on the ramp...I used to take my body for granted in my modelling days — I ate what I wanted and never worked out. I was at my heaviest in my first film Jism too but fortunately people thought I looked hot. But now after becoming an actor, I have realised the importance of staying fit. Being in shape not only keeps you looking good but also helps you in coping with mental stress.
I was scared of showing my mid-riff and that’s what initiated me into getting into shape….I was playing a club dancer in No Entry and was required to wear clothes that showed off my belly. I feared that my bulges will show on screen and that really motivated me to start working out and eating sensibly.
Love handles are the biggest problem for women…I have been working on getting rid of my love handles and am actually seeing some positive results. I do side twists and crunches and thankfully my love handles haven’t come back.
I still have a long way to go but I am working towards getting a Perfect 10 body…I usually work out thrice a week but remain active on all days through dancing and outdoor sports like tennis. My exercise routine starts with half an hour on the treadmill and 15 minutes either on the cross trainer or a stationery cycle. I also lift weights, concentrating on two body parts at a time.
Whatever is my intake, it has to be low-fat….I don’t really make a conscious effort to stay away from any kind of food in particular, but whatever I eat has to be nutritious and low-fat. I start my day with toast, cornflakes and juice. Lunch is either fish, chicken or vegetables with rotis. I have cut down drastically on my rice intake. Dinner is usually a salad.
Though I work hard towards maintaining my body, I don’t ignore my mind….It is very important to beat mental and physical stress. While yoga and meditation do wonders for my mental well-being, I also believe that the company of friends and family contributes greatly to my life and happiness.

LONDON: Sania Mirza will head to the hard courts of the United States, determined to prove she’s a better player than her early French Open and Wimbledon exits suggest.
Sania was knocked out of the first round at Wimbledon by Elena Dementieva, the Russian seventh seed, 7-6(5) 7-5, just weeks after the draw at Roland Garros handed her an unenviable opener against former champion Anastasia Myskina. That too ended in a demoralising defeat.
But the Hyderabad lass, who has lived with all manner of threats because of her sultry and sexy on-court appearance, believes the US hard-court season will see a much-needed change in fortune. “Luck has not really been on my side. I played Myskina who loves clay in Paris and Dementieva here,” she says. “I’m not very much disappointed as I played a decent match. I’ve always learnt to take positives out of my game.”
The 19-year-old ended 2005 ranked 31 in the world, a season which also saw her win the Hyderabad Open, her first, and only, WTA title. But 2006 has been a struggle with injuries and Sania took to the court on Wednesday with her right elbow heavily strapped.
“The second year on the circuit is always tougher than the first because other players get to analyse your game,” she says.
“Everyone knows if they play to my forehand they’ll be in trouble and the word spreads. Dementieva played to my backhand. Because of my elbow injury I’ve not been able to work on it as much as I would have liked.
“Injuries are an inevitable part of every sport. There’s never going to be a time when I wake up in the morning and something’s not hurting. We’re putting so much pressure on our bodies that something’s going to break down once in a while,” she adds.
